Malachite Gin Brings Fynbos To Our Glasses
Ahhhh, I get it. A package was delivered to the Dossier offices, containing a bottle of Malachite Gin. I studied the packaging, twisted the bottle around in my hands, and thought to myself, someone clever is behind this product.
And I was right. The man behind this gin, is none other than Grant Rushmere, the entrepreneur who launched BOS Iced Tea, Afro Coffee and Striped Horse Beer. Not many will remember, but I do, that he was a well known model at one time too. So, yes, it all makes sense. Beautiful packaging, stunning bottle and a story to tell.
Gin was formulated in Holland in the 1600’s by a Dutch scientist formulating medicinal juniper oil and distilling into a spirit. It was an instant hit, but here in South Africa we have perfected the formula with our Fynbos, unique to our country.
The Malachite Sunbird feeds and pollinates on the flowers of the Cape Fynbos, hence the name. The Cape Floral Kingdom is one of the only six UNESCO Works Heritage Sites. Whilst it only covers 1% of the African continent, it accounts for 20% of the continents’s flora.
Malachite Gin is infused with that magic, rounded off with lemon rind, including juniper blends and hints of elderflower and chamomile. Roll on summer days. This is perfect for our summer afternoons.
