Apple launches new LA flagship store

Just like restoring an ancient masterpiece artwork, architectural firm and long time collaborators with Apple, Foster + Partners, have bought a 1920’s LA theatre to life their new flagship store.

The building, dating from 1929, has been out of use since 1988. It is Apple’s initiative to restore buildings for their new stores.

Wallpaper reports,”Working with a team of preservationists, the Apple design team, alongside a taskforce of local artisans and craftspeople, used innovative techniques like 3D laser scans and forensic paint studies to understand and replicate the original colours and textures found in the old theatre. More traditional techniques were used too, including ‘tipping’, a stippling method used to prevent brush marks. ‘This project has been a true labour of love,’ says Doo Ho Lee, director of retail design at Apple.

Store opened 24 July 2021
