Blue Skies Ahead: Longines Adds Four Blue Pilot Watches to the Spirit Collection

Longines has been making instruments for aviators for close to a century, and for 2026 it's adding four new models to its Spirit collection: two Spirit Pilot three-handers and two Spirit Pilot Flyback chronographs. All four have matt blue dials, and all four are COSC-certified chronometers.

A bit of backstory

Longines' aviation credentials are well documented. The brand worked with pioneers such as Amelia Earhart, Elinor Smith and Richard Byrd, supplying precision instruments for transatlantic flights and polar expeditions. The Spirit collection launched in 2020 to celebrate that history. The Spirit Pilot line followed in 2025 as a more focused interpretation of the modern pilot's watch.

The new references come either on a stainless-steel bracelet with a micro-adjustable folding clasp or on a Swiss-made blue rubber strap. The rubber option suits the sportier, go-anywhere character Longines is aiming for.

Spirit Pilot: the everyday flyer

The three-hand Spirit Pilot has a 39 mm stainless-steel case, which Longines says has improved ergonomics. The matt blue dial carries silvered hands, applied Arabic numerals and a refined minute track. The design is about quick, clear reading, which is the main job of a pilot's watch.

Inside is the Longines-exclusive calibre L888.4, a self-winding movement with a silicon balance-spring. Longines says its magnetic resistance is up to ten times the ISO 764 standard. It has a power reserve of up to 72 hours and COSC certification. A screw-in crown and a screw-down case back give 100 metres (10 bar) of water resistance.

Spirit Pilot Flyback: the headline act

The flyback chronograph ties directly to Longines' own history. The brand developed flyback technology in the early 1930s and filed its patent in 1935. A flyback lets you reset and restart the chronograph with a single push, which is handy when timing consecutive flight legs.

The new Flyback measures 39.5 mm across and 13.4 mm thick, which is a compact size for a chronograph. The blue dial is paired with a bidirectional rotating bezel with a blue ceramic insert and a countdown scale, giving the watch a clean, monochrome look. The silvered hands and applied numerals are treated with Super-LumiNova®, and a box-shaped sapphire crystal adds a vintage-instrument feel.

The movement is the Longines-exclusive calibre L792.4, which you can see through a transparent screw-down case back. It has a column-wheel chronograph with the flyback function, a silicon balance-spring and anti-magnetic components. It offers up to 68 hours of power reserve and COSC certification. Water resistance is also 100 metres.

The takeaway

This is a colour update rather than a reinvention. Still, blue suits the Spirit's clean pilot design, and the specs are strong for the category: chronometer certification across the range, high magnetic resistance, long power reserves, and case sizes that stay wearable. The 39.5 mm Flyback stands out for anyone who has found chronographs too bulky.
