Christian Dior's Night in Colour

Christian Dior's Night in Colour

Dior is dreaming in colour this Christmas, and doing so with the kind of cinematic charm that only the French maison could deliver.

For its Holiday 2026 campaign, Dior has enlisted acclaimed French animator Sylvain Chomet, the Oscar-nominated director behind The Triplets of Belleville and The Illusionist, to create Christian Dior's Night in Color, a hand-drawn animated short that blends fashion history, fantasy and festive wonder.

Set on a snowy Christmas Eve in 1949, the film reimagines a moment from Dior's relationship with Hollywood legend Marlene Dietrich. When a last-minute call arrives from Hollywood announcing that a film will be shot in colour rather than black and white, Monsieur Christian Dior is tasked with creating an extraordinary gown overnight. What follows is a whimsical journey through the ateliers of 30 Avenue Montaigne, where Dior's celebrated petites mains are transformed into a swarm of industrious bees, sewing magic into every stitch.

The story centres on a spectacular creation inspired by Dior's legendary Junon gown of 1949, often regarded as one of the most beautiful dresses in haute couture history. As muted tones gradually burst into radiant colour, the film becomes a celebration of craftsmanship, imagination and fashion's power to transform the ordinary into something unforgettable.

Adding further star power, the animated cast features the voices of Robert Pattinson as narrator, Louis Garrel as Christian Dior, Camille Cottin as Marlene Dietrich and Rihanna as Dior's symbolic Lucky Star, joined by Greta Lee, Josh O'Connor, LaKeith Stanfield, Nine d'Urso and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.

Under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson, the project feels less like a festive advertisement and more like a miniature film. The choice of traditional hand-drawn animation is particularly poignant in an age dominated by digital imagery. Every frame reflects the same patience, artistry and attention to detail that define haute couture itself.

More than a Christmas campaign, Christian Dior's Night in Color serves as a love letter to the house's heritage. It revisits Dior's longstanding dialogue with cinema while reminding viewers that behind every iconic gown lies a world of craftsmanship, storytelling and a little magic. This season, Dior proves that the most luxurious gift is not found beneath the tree, but in the ability to dream.
