Gucci Fall 2025: Decadence, Drama, and the DNA of a Fashion Giant

 By Leon Haasbroek

Gucci’s Fall 2025 Ready-to-Wear collection was a full-circle moment - steeped in ‘70s nostalgia yet unmistakably Gucci. Retro reigned supreme as the looks sauntered down the runway, set against a backdrop of emerald-green opulence, where rich tapestries evoked old-school glamour. This marked the first collection helmed solely by the Gucci design studio following Sabato De Sarno’s recent departure, sparking speculation that the House would use the moment to unveil its next creative director - spoiler: it didn’t. Instead, what unfolded was a masterclass in Gucci’s legacy, where silhouettes paid homage to the brand’s DNA with unapologetic confidence. That legacy pulsed through every look, with structured outerwear embracing exaggerated proportions and classic accessories - refined handbags and gilded horsebit details - sealing the retro-infused narrative. The venue itself, reminiscent of a mid-century modern dream, amplified the spectacle with its mirrored ceilings and an illuminated double-G-shaped runway. As models moved with precision, a live orchestra swelled with cinematic intensity, heightening the drama and reinforcing the collection’s timeless allure.

Drawing from decades of influence - the collection’s strongest heartbeat remained in the ‘70s - Gucci’s perennial playground. Tailoring played with volume and proportion, from bold-shouldered coats to curve-skimming pencil skirts, punctuated by an electrifying palette of jewel tones and rich textures. Fluid slip dresses whispered of effortless decadence, while unexpected styling cues - silk scarves knotted over baseball caps, power knitwear, and glistening metallic accents - brought an air of irreverent luxury.

Yet, beneath the theatricality, there was a measured precision. The Gucci design studio leaned into the house’s signature silhouettes while injecting them with playful eccentricity. Statement suiting made an impact, from a deep purple-gray monochrome ensemble with an oversized blazer to impeccably tailored menswear with bold, graphic lines. A tangerine-hued skirt, dripping in embellishments, delivered audacious glamour, while liquid velvets and signature accessories - structured duffles and oversized eyewear - anchored the styling in Gucci’s unmistakable world.

With the brand at a pivotal moment, all eyes were on this collection for a glimpse into Gucci’s next chapter. The message? A return to refined classics, layered with the house’s distinct codes. Rich autumnal hues - ochre, burnt sienna, and deep purples - brought warmth to the lineup, while shimmering crystal details added a touch of theatricality. And in a rare, unifying moment, the Gucci design team took a collective bow, a quiet yet powerful tribute to the creatives steering Gucci’s future.
