PURPLE REIGNS : TAG HEUER

Swiss Luxury Watchmaker TAG Heuer starts the year with two new additions to its iconic TAG Heuer Carrera collection. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon ignite the Glassbox design with a striking smoky black-to-purple gradient dial, following the success of the TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph in purple.

A Spectrum of Glassbox

First introduced in 1963, the TAG Heuer Carrera has defined the chronograph wristwatch for over six decades. Celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2023, the Carrera piece is known for its classic silhouette, legible dial, and precise engineering—establishing itself as a must-have for racing enthusiasts and watch collectors alike.

Named after the legendary Carrera Panamericana race, Jack Heuer’s vision for the Carrera was to create a timepiece synonymous with precision, pushing boundaries for both design and function. The Glassbox added to the ultimate legibility goal, a way for time to be read at any angle. Since its revival in 2023, the watch has consistently remained a key player in the chronograph world, with new models introduced each year in various colors (green, blue, Panda, becoming an essential timepiece for collectors and watch enthusiasts.

Building on the innovative structure language that has defined the Glassbox series since the 60th anniversary, the new models expand the collection’s color palette. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph and TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon give collectors a fresh perspective on the depth of the Glassbox design, with an extraordinary interplay of color and light.

After the success of the 2022 TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph in purple, TAG Heuer incorporates this striking color scheme into the Carrera Glassbox series. The dials of the new models are made with a smooth gradient effect, transitioning from deep black at the edges to a rich purple at the center. This smoky sunray-brushed finish increases the dimensionality of the design, playing with light and depth from every angle. The chronograph counters show a full black azuré finish, highlighted by silver accents for clarity and contrast, ensuring optimal legibility while enriching the overall visual appeal. The iconic domed sapphire crystal of the Glassbox further amplifies the dial’s curved structure, making this watch a bold statement on the wrist.

The cases feature a sunray-brushed finish that complements the dial’s gradient, creating adynamic contrast between the black outer ring and the purple center. Rhodium-plated hour markers, along with silver accents, bring a refined but understated elegance to the timepiece.Inside the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph is the in-house Heuer 02 (TH20-00) movement, celebrated for its reliability and performance, visible through the open caseback. This caliber delivers an 80-hour power reserve and is housed in a 39mm stainless steel case with alternating polished and brushed finishes for added texture.

Meanwhile, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon showcases the brand’s horological expertise. Limited to just 200 pieces, as indicated by the engraving XXX/200 on the caseback, this timepiece is powered by TAG Heuer’s in-house Heuer 02 (TH20-09) tourbillon movement, offering a 65-hour power reserve. The tourbillon is framed within the smoky purple dial, drawing attention to its precision and savoir-faire beneath the Glassbox’s domed sapphire crystal.

Both models are fitted with black perforated leather straps, complemented by black stitching on the front and a purple calfskin lining on the reverse with tone-on-tone stitching.
