The Colours of Racing: TAG Heuer x Team Ikuzawa
Dossier Horology Feature — The Colours of Racing: TAG Heuer x Team Ikuzawa
Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer reunites with Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department for a limited‑edition chronograph that channels the visual codes of Japanese motorsport through a contemporary lens. Following the success of their inaugural partnership in 2023, the collaboration returns with the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa, limited to 150 individually numbered pieces.
A Cultural Intersection
At the heart of this collaboration is Mai Ikuzawa, Team Principal and Creative Director of Team Ikuzawa. Born in Tokyo and raised around race circuits, Ikuzawa has redefined her team’s legacy as a cultural platform merging racing heritage with fashion, art, and luxury. Educated at Central Saint Martins, she brings two decades of experience bridging design and motorsport, creating work defined by authenticity and cultural resonance.
Working alongside longtime collaborator George Bamford, Ikuzawa translated Team Ikuzawa’s aesthetic into a timepiece that celebrates both heritage and modernity. Inspired by the historic Heuer Roadmaster stopwatch, the design reinterprets bold graphics and functional motorsport character through a refined, contemporary language.
The Ikuzawa Signature
The 39‑mm Carrera Glassbox case, fine‑brushed and polished in steel, frames a dial transformed by Team Ikuzawa’s codes. Finished in white with a Clou de Paris texture, it evokes the team’s iconic colours. Printed indexes replace applied markers, reinforcing the stopwatch aesthetic, while red accents animate the lacquered hands, chronograph seconds, and date disc. At six o’clock, the Team Ikuzawa signature takes centre stage — a tribute to historic TAG Heuer chronographs that reserved dial space for racing teams and sponsors.
Additional details continue the narrative: a black flange contrasted by a crisp white minute track, a polished crown with red lacquered ring, and a seven‑row steel bracelet alternating brushed and polished finishes. Two additional straps accompany the watch — a perforated white leather strap with red stitching inspired by racing gloves, and a red‑and‑white textile strap referencing Team Ikuzawa’s historic livery.
A Collector’s Piece
The reverse side of the watch carries engravings from Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department, alongside the individual numbering of each piece. Powered by the TH20‑10 manufacture chronograph calibre, the watch omits the running seconds display, echoing Jack Heuer’s pioneering vision of connecting timing instruments with motorsport culture.
This collaboration is more than a timepiece. It is a cultural statement, merging the romance of analogue racing with the precision of contemporary horology. For collectors and enthusiasts, the Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa embodies the colours of racing — history, passion, and design, united in a singular vision.
“Inspired by the Roadmaster stopwatch, this chronograph bridges racing heritage and modern design, speaking to a new generation of collectors.”
