TUDOR unveils its first ever watch with a moon phase complication
In a poetic alignment with the Mid-Autumn Festival, TUDOR unveils a timepiece that captures the celestial elegance of the moon itself. The 1926 Luna, the brand’s first watch to feature a moon phase complication, is a tribute to both horological artistry and cultural reverence. Drawing inspiration from the moon’s symbolic role in Eastern traditions—where it represents unity and familial harmony—TUDOR has collaborated with its ambassador Jay Chou to infuse this creation with a touch of magic.
The 1926 collection, named after the year “The Tudor” was first registered by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, has long embodied the brand’s commitment to beauty and value. It is within this refined lineage that the Luna finds its home. Jay Chou’s creative influence is most vividly expressed in the champagne-coloured dial, where a golden moon disc glows behind a shadowy veil, mimicking the waxing and waning of lunar light. This poetic complication is housed within a 39mm polished steel case, available in three dial variations—black, blue, and champagne—each with its own distinct moon phase interpretation.
The moon phase indicator, positioned at six o’clock, is framed by a polished bevel and set against domed dials that evoke vintage charm. Beneath the surface lies the Swiss-made Calibre T607-9, a chronometer-grade self-winding movement that not only measures time with precision but also tracks the lunar cycle with mesmerizing accuracy. It is a duality of function that speaks to the watch’s deeper narrative—one that transcends mere timekeeping.
In Roman mythology, Luna is the goddess of the moon, a figure of divine beauty and mystery. Her presence is echoed in the Luna’s design, which captures the ethereal rhythm of the lunar calendar. While most years offer twelve full moons, the occasional thirteenth adds a layer of unpredictability, much like the allure of this watch. The moon phase complication becomes a poetic reminder of nature’s cycles, and perhaps, a whimsical nod to folklore—when the full moon rises, beware the werewolf.
The craftsmanship of the 1926 Luna extends to its bracelet, a seven-link steel construction that balances satin-brushed outer links with polished centre links. Designed for comfort and elegance, it curves gracefully around the wrist, a testament to TUDOR’s enduring expertise in bracelet design. The domed sapphire crystal and screw-down crown ensure water resistance up to 100 metres, reinforcing the watch’s robust character.
True to the brand’s ethos, the Luna is backed by a five-year transferable guarantee, requiring no registration or periodic maintenance checks. It is a reflection of TUDOR’s unwavering confidence in its products and its dedication to quality without compromise.
Since its inception, TUDOR has been guided by Hans Wilsdorf’s vision of creating technically perfect watches at accessible prices. The 1926 Luna is a continuation of that legacy, blending innovation with tradition, and daring with elegance. It is not merely a watch—it is a celebration of time, myth, and artistry, born to dare and destined to enchant.
