Alta Moda collection: Chopard
When time is dressed in Couture
On the occasion of the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, Chopard revives the Alta Moda collection, consisting of jewellery watches first unveiled by the Maison in 1984 at the Montres et Bijoux de Genève salon, and now reinterpreted through the savoir-faire of Chopard and Caroline’s Couture.
Conceived at the crossroads of watchmaking, jewellery and couture, Alta Moda returns as a distinctly feminine creation — one where time is worn like a fashion statement.
True to the original design, the new Alta Moda watch is distinguished by its use of silk taffeta, whose generous folds form an ample butterfly bow at the centre of the wrist. Rather than serving as a mere decorative accent, the fabric itself becomes the bracelet, enveloping the watch with softness, volume and movement. At its heart, the timepiece appears seamlessly integrated into the bow, like a jewelled detail placed upon couture.
The silk taffeta ribbon used for the Alta Moda bracelet is the very same fabric featured in select creations fromCaroline’s Couture collection, presented by Caroline Scheufele every year during the Cannes Film Festival since 2023. The watch becomes a natural extension of the ensemble; a jewel in dialogue with fashion.
“At Chopard, I have always loved pushing the boundaries between jewellery, watchmaking and fashion,” says Caroline Scheufele, Co‑President and Artistic Director of Chopard. “Alta Moda was born from my mother’s instinct in the 1980s. Revisiting this quintessentially feminine creation, imagined by a woman for women, felt like an obvious choice.”
Nestled at the centre of the fabric bracelet sits a dainty 24 mm case, crafted in 18-carat ethical white gold. Pavé-set with 80 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling 5.50 carats, the case draws the light with refined radiance while preserving a sense of delicacy. A mother-of-pearl dial enhances this luminosity, its subtle iridescence echoing the depth and softness of silk.
Designed to adapt to every style and every moment, the ribbon is secured by a removable clasp set in gold and diamonds. The silk butterfly bow can therefore be easily changed to suit different outfits and moods.
Crafted by Chopard’s ateliers, Alta Moda embodies a vision of jewellery watches where technique serves expression. Its jewellery-forward aesthetic naturally resonates with Chopard’s emblematic diamond-set watches, notably L’Heure du Diamant, while extending that lineage through the language of fabric, texture and movement — hallmarks of Caroline Scheufele’s creative universe.
Throughout her Haute Joaillerie collections, Caroline Scheufele has repeatedly explored the sensuality of textiles, translating lace, silk and embroidery into gold and precious stones. With Alta Moda, that exploration becomes literal: fabric itself embraces the wrist.
As the 4th Caroline’s Couture collection is unveiled, the presentation of Alta Moda affirms that certain creations are timeless; they re-emerge and captivate with renewed relevance.
