Eugenio Recuenco Through the Lightbox 360

Eugenio Recuenco Through the Lightbox 360

Spanish Photographer Eugenio Recuenco took on a highly ambitious project - taking eight years to shoot an image for every day of the year. He decided to use the same set, and same camera angle, thus setting boundaries for himself. “As a photographer, it was the moment in which I lost my freedom, deciding this is the position of the camera, and this is the set”, he says. But that is where the creativity exploded. Each date signifies a particular memory of his life or world events, and took a mammoth cast of characters boggles the mind – a total of 120 models took part in the project from start to finish and a team of 300 production staff.

We give you a small glimpse into this spectacular photographic exhibition. Watch the video to see what events influenced each shot. Incredible!

About the Artist

Eugenio Recuenco was born in Madrid, Spain in May 1968. His interest for the arts was evident as a child, so none of his family or friends were surprised when he enrolled in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he later achieved a BBAA with a major in Painting.

Starting out, Recuenco created large format paintings in which he included pictures of his own. In his words: “…as I could not find a public interested in four-metres-wide canvases, I focused on photography.” This led him to collaborate with the leading Spanish and International fashion magazines such Vogue, Madame Figaro, Vanity Fair, GQ, Marie Claire, and Zink.

Working in the advertising and fashion industries in Paris, Recuenco's first assignment was with Boucheron, but he was subsequently hired by some of the world’s most prestigious brands: Loewe, Nina Ricci, Diesel, Shangai Tan, Yves Saint Laurent, Playstation, Naf Naf, Mango and Pernod Ricard.

In 2007, Recuenco was asked to work with Eric Dover on the set design for the New York premier of the opera, “The Huguenots”.

In 2008, for his short film for Loewe, titled “The Essence of Seduction”, Recuenco gained recognition in Spain where it was awarded best advertisement of the year, while in the Mexico City International Film Festival it was appointed at the best within short film category.

His exhibition is the result of a complex narrative and sets that include references to the history of art and artists, such as the Renaissance, Picasso, and Tamara de Lempicka. This truly personal style let him develop commercials and short films with a “plot”, for which he received a number of awards.
