We chatted to Jason Bricknell about a few of his favourite things. Jason has been head designer and owner of Emerald Black since 2008.

What has been the most challenging aspect of your career?

Understanding a client’s design aesthetic might be very different to my vision, and confined to only what they know and have been exposed to. Introducing clients to new ideas and concepts can be challenging and requires both patience and diplomacy.

And most rewarding?

Witnessing the transformation of a space, but more so, seeing the design evolution of a client, experiencing the change from a house into a home they both love and are proud of.

How would you sum up your style?

My style is very much influenced by the client’s direction, but I infuse functional luxury and glamour to present a look that is practical yet unique.
If you could design your own home in any style what would you do?

Contemporary Art Deco.
What is your favourite holiday destination?

Anywhere in the bush, Alaska & Madrid
Your least favourite holiday destination?

None; it’s still a holiday, and one can find appreciation and inspiration in everything.
