Dining at The Houghton is a wonderous experience. Firstly, the hotel lobby features the whole day dining -Nova Bistro. Breakfast includes everything from the good old English breakfast, to Salmon Bagels, healthy juices, vegan options and flapjacks with berries. The menu is diverse and caters for every taste and diet.
For lunch, you are even more about spoilt for choice than breakfast. You can choose between light bites like Halloumi to salads, to full on grill choices like ribeye steak, then pastas, sushi in many forms. If it is a cake or sweet thing you are after, your options are just as diverse. This menu is served till late, and the bar is open for cocktails, cocktails, ciders or again, anything your heart desires, to be enjoyed inside or overlooking the pool area.
There is also a private cigar lounge with sports TV next to dining area.
The hotel offers a selection of 60 suites (furnished by DSGN interior designers), seven penthouse suites, and five two-floor penthouses, The Houghton Hotel accommodates corporates, VIP’s, leisure travellers, honeymooners and special occasions in style and unparalleled comfort. For those who have truly earned it though, the Rockstar Penthouse is an unparalleled 830m² multi-storey paradise with a private elevator, spa room, wine cellar, swimming pool, and Jacuzzi. The rooms are airy, fresh, contemporary. What I personally liked about being in the rooms, I felt that I could be in Dubai or Singapore or Chicago. Once you are in the hotel, you can leave Jozi behind.
Want to see what you get in a penthouse. Yes, it is something else, lounge, kitchen, two rooms, dining room, veranda with jacuzzi overlooking the trees of Johannesburg. Wow!
And then, we have kept the best for last. The feat that is the luxurious food experience of Sejour, fine dining, overlooking the golf course. We fell in love with Chef Freddie Dias. This humble talent has travelled the world looking for all his ideas, and is by far the best kept secret in Johannesburg. Not one to make a huge fuss of himself, Dias puts on an incredible show of dishes, the one better than the next. To be honest, I would stay over a night just to eat at Sejour and enjoy the choices of the charming sommelier Bheki. And you can get some specials at about R450 per person for all the courses and a glass of bubbly if you keep an eye on the Sejour Instagram page.
The The House of Tshegofatso Spa is contemporary, using Babor products, and the loveliest ladies doing treatments.
Our reason for rating this a must for all- you can be active, or just lounge, incredible food all round, but we will give the experience a 5 star PLUS for the service, waitress and staff. Lovelier people you won’t find.
